How the dutching calculator works

Each selection’s stake is proportional to 1 / odds so that any winning selection returns the same payout. We also show the combined overround — if it is negative, you have a profitable dutch (rare in practice without arb-grade pricing).

Example

Three horses at 3.00, 4.50 and 6.00 with $100 total stake produces stakes of ~$53.33, $35.56 and $26.67 (note: this example combined overround is >0, so it represents normal racing prices not an arb).

FAQ

  • What is dutching?

Dutching is staking multiple selections in the same market so that any winning selection returns the same total payout. It is commonly used in horse racing and multi-runner futures markets.

  • Is dutching the same as arbitrage?

No — arbitrage covers every outcome of a market (combined implied probability under 100%). Dutching only backs a subset of selections and only guarantees equal profit if one of those selections wins.

  • When is dutching profitable?

When you believe the true probability of one of your selections winning is materially higher than the bookmaker market suggests, AND the combined overround on your selections is low.

  • How is dutching different from a multi?

A multi requires every leg to win across separate markets. Dutching requires just one of multiple selections to win within a single market.
