Stakes Day odds 2026
Flemington, Saturday 7 November — live Group 1 prices for the VRC Champions Stakes, Champions Mile and Champions Sprint.
About Stakes Day
Stakes Day closes the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington with the VRC Champions program: three Group 1 weight-for-age races on one card. The Champions Stakes over 2,000 m is the carnival championship, backed by the Champions Mile at 1,600 m and the Champions Sprint down the straight 1,200 m — so the last Saturday of the carnival prices the three best weight-for-age races in the country side by side.

Stakes Day FAQ
When is Stakes Day 2026?
Stakes Day 2026 is Saturday 7 November at Flemington Racecourse — the fourth and final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, four days after the Cup and two days after Oaks Day.
What races are on Stakes Day?
Three Group 1 weight-for-age races on one card: the VRC Champions Stakes over 2,000 m, the VRC Champions Mile over 1,600 m and the VRC Champions Sprint down the straight 1,200 m. It is the only day of the Australian season that prices three open-class Group 1 weight-for-age races side by side.
What is the difference between the Champions Stakes and the Champions Mile?
Distance, and what it suits. Both are Group 1 weight-for-age, so the weight scale is identical — the Champions Mile at 1,600 m favours the milers coming back from the Cox Plate and the Toorak, while the Champions Stakes at 2,000 m is the championship trip that rewards the horses who stayed the Cox Plate distance.
Is the Champions Stakes the old Mackinnon Stakes?
Yes. The race is registered as the LKS Mackinnon Stakes and has carried the Champions Stakes name since 2022, when it moved from Victoria Derby Day to the final day of the carnival. That is why this page lists recent winners from 2022 on — earlier runnings were at a different meeting.
How do I find the best Stakes Day price?
Each feature here shows the shortest price per runner from the markets we capture. For the full board — every Australian bookmaker we cover side by side, so you can take the top price rather than the first one you see — open the racing odds comparison and pick the Flemington meeting.
Does this page update on Stakes Day?
Yes. The page rebuilds every 15 minutes, so the prices, the number of runners holding a market and the last-captured time all move with the bookmakers through the day. Anything you read here is a captured price, not a pre-post figure typed in once.
